Full course description
It's time to rethink how we approach writing in the classroom. As educators, we too, need to embrace the writer within. This course allows teachers to learn different approaches to get students thinking, writing, and sharing ideas. Teachers will be engaged in writing activities that foster creativity and engagement.
With so much focus on reading and math at the lower grade levels and a strong focus on content in the upper grades, this course will provide fresh ideas to get students writing a variety of pieces beyond the five-paragraph essay, book report, journal entry, or the infamous hero essay. We will explore a variety of methods to convey and communicate our thoughts, our words, and our voice.
If students are going to gain "adequate mastery of a range of skills and applications," we must embed writing in everyday situations. It's not just about vocabulary and grammar. Writing is about style, voice, syntax, diction, etc. As we depend more and more on the online world, we all have to learn how to clearly communicate our thoughts, feelings, and actions. This course provides teachers with an opportunity to experience a variety of activities to get students expressing their own thoughts, feelings, and actions. So put your thinking cap on - it’s time to write!
